ALTERNATIVE VOCABULARY CONCERNING SUICIDE

Instead of using Completed Suicide
consider Died by suicide, Suicide or Death by their own hand.

Why? May be interpreted as doubt that by still being alive, one is incomplete.


Instead of using Failed or Unsuccessful attempt
consider Suicide attempt.

Why? Failure may be interpreted as shame one can’t even kill themselves successfully,
or that one will only become successful upon their death.


Instead of using Committed suicide
consider Died by suicide, Suicide or Death by their own hand.

Why? Avoid linking criminality with suicide, or making them feel like criminals.
